Hello, World!
This is my first published website. It is written with HTML and CSS. The fonts are Georgia and Calibri. That beautiful green texture you see in the back is the backside of a State of Michigan Narcotic License expired in the year 1947, which you can buy at this link here for $243.
This website is supposed to function both as a professional space (it houses my resume) and personal wiki of sorts, as well as a place where I share ideas, tutorials, technical notes, essays on a variety of topics, and my artistic endeavors. I think sharing these things publicly and working to fully flesh out my ideas or projects forces me to reach a more genuine understanding of them. That being said, please bear in mind that you are crawling through my thoughts! My writing may be cringe and I will likely change my views, multiple times. Thank you in advance for your grace.
I assembled most of the site manually, though I did have Codex help me clean up (a lot) of my CSS styling. My design philosophy was mainly inspired by these three other sites:1. https://motherfuckingwebsite.com/
Listen, I love internet-corners where they have all these flashy doo-dads for you to poke around in, but that just isn’t me. I also think it’s easy to get stuck in a ‘planning’ trap, where you keep tinkering with cool ideas and shiny new libraries and languages and ooooohhh all this complexity that you end up missing the point of the task, which is to finish making the thing. At some point, the ‘labor of love’ delaying deployment is just perfectionism.
Trust me, I do understand obsessing over details, caring about the quality of things, and waiting until something is ready to be released. I scrapped three fully working versions of my site before settling on this one! Perfectionism isn’t an inherently bad impulse, but you must first build a track record of going through the life-cycle of creating and completing something. This also applies to everything you do in life. You don’t need to have a sleek sexy website that takes forever to load. You don’t need tons of resources or skills to finish something well. You do owe it to yourself and like, being in service to art creation and the universe, to make your thing real. Less is good if it makes your thing real.

The inspiration here is more literal. I was scrolling through Dead Simple Sites and found Josh Bradley’s website, then borrowed (stole) his layout construction. In his blogpost ‘Rebuilding This Website’, Josh writes that he had done the same thing as I did to another site. Lol.

This is what I meant by cringe writing. Ok, I should give freshman year me some grace. I think the writing there is more floral than I'd like now, but despite that I'm actually quite proud of it. I really like that I made it, and writing this was one of the few events I can point to and say I felt a revelation (like a cloth being removed) in my understanding of myself.
Anyways, I got most of my font choice and colors from this Wordpress template. My hunt for my perfect green texture led me to the expired Michigan State Narcotic license, which I thought was funny because of how perfectly unexpected yet ‘me’ that Google search journey felt.
Onward and upwards.
